🌶️ Weird & After Dark

Maid cafés, toilet dinners, rope nights and Ximending's strange corners
⚠️ Read first
Sex work is illegal in Taiwan. Skip "hostess" KTVs, late-night "massage" fronts and touts. Those are where foreigners get scammed or overcharged, and nothing on this page involves them. Watch your drink in clubs. Many venues below ban photos, so ask before shooting with the X100VI.
🎀 Maid cafés 女僕咖啡

Taiwan's take on Akihabara: maids greet you as "master," draw on your omurice in ketchup and do stage songs, all of it wholesome and theatrical. Expect a minimum spend of about NT$150–200 per person and a time limit, and no photos of the maids without paying for a "cheki" (instant photo). Most are clustered around Ximending.

  • Tukuyomi 月讀女僕咖啡: Taipei's oldest (since 2005), with stage performances and plate art. Wanhua, Wuchang St Sec 2, Lane 29, 3F 📍
  • Moe Hime 萌姬女僕咖啡館: the most anime-styled, near Ximen MRT. Hanzhong St 127, 6F 📍
  • Kokorolia 心物語: different themes daily, with illustrated food. Yanping S Rd 80 📍
  • 蕾菲亞 (Lefia): adventurer's-guild RPG theme, cheap. Hanzhong St 205 📍

📰 Maid café roundup (中文)

🚽 Themed & just plain odd
  • Modern Toilet 便所主題餐廳: curry served in a mini squat toilet, soft-serve swirl "poop" in a urinal cup, and you sit on toilets. The 3-floor Ximending flagship is still open (confirmed 2025). Xining S Rd, Lane 50, No. 7, 2F 📍 ℹ️
  • Tattoo Street, Hanzhong St Lane 50: open-fronted parlors where you watch people get inked from the sidewalk 📍
  • Penis-shaped cakes: the classic Ximending gag gift, boxed in strawberry, chocolate or matcha
  • Don Don Donki Ximen: multi-floor Japanese discount chaos, with weird snacks, sake and an adult-toy aisle 📍
  • Cat cafés: Fufu Cat Café, and Le Mao Chef (munchkin cats)
  • Old Man Under the Moon: the matchmaking god at Xiahai City God Temple. Locals pray for love and take home red thread 📍
  • Themed love motels 摩鐵: a Taiwan institution with hourly "rest" rates and over-the-top themed suites, often with a jacuzzi and karaoke. Treat it as a cultural curiosity; plenty of locals book them for a staycation

📖 Ximending quirky guide (2026)

⛓️ Rope & kink
🪢Cats Downstairs 貓樓上

A Taipei community studio for shibari (rope bondage), aerial arts and figure drawing, run as a consent-first, open-to-everyone space. This is the real rope scene, not a tourist show. Datong District, Chengde Rd Sec 3 📍 🌐 Calendar & booking

Thu nights
Rope jam. Fits a weeknight
"Shibari Obsession"
Figure drawing with a rope-bound model. The most approachable way in, and an art night as much as a kink night
Performances / workshops
Occasional shows and visiting international instructors. Check the calendar for Nov 9–19
Private lesson
Group classes are taught in Mandarin; English private sessions are available (via Noir_fix). Book ahead

  • Mixed-crowd fetish parties and munches are private and posted on FetLife (search the Taipei groups) a week or two ahead. Go through organizers, not street touts
  • Etiquette everywhere: ask before touching or photographing anyone, follow the dungeon monitors, and expect no phones or cameras in play spaces
