Trip 2 ยท Fujifilm X100VI

๐Ÿ“ท Photo Spots

One prime: 23mm f/2 (35mm equivalent). Every spot here is picked for that focal length.
โ˜€๏ธ The light problem (and the fix)
In Taipei mid-November, the sun sets around 17:05 and blue hour ends around 17:30, before most workdays are over. So weeknights are for night, neon, rain and temples, and the golden-hour and blue-hour shots go on weekends. November's drizzle actually helps: wet streets double every neon sign.

๐ŸŒ‘ New moon on Nov 9 (dark skies). ๐ŸŒ• Full moon on Nov 23, which rises over Pas-ta'ay night and the Water Official festival. Times are computed, so allow a few minutes either way.

๐Ÿงฐ Shooting the X100VI here
  • Zoom with your feet, then the teleconverter. The digital teleconverter (50mm / 70mm equivalent) crops the 40 MP sensor to about 20 / 10 MP. 50mm is fine for compressing Taipei 101; save 70mm for when you truly can't get closer.
  • Built-in 4-stop ND. Use it for daytime motion blur: crowds on Dihua Street, the gondola, temple smoke. Pair it with the leaf shutter for fill flash in bright sun, but never flash at temples or ceremonies.
  • IBIS + leaf shutter. Handheld at 1/4โ€“1/8 s works for night temples and neon, so there's no tripod to carry on weeknights. The electronic shutter is fully silent, which is the respectful choice at rituals.
  • Rain. The X100VI is only weather-resistant with the AR-X100 adapter ring + PRF-49 filter. Bring a microfiber cloth and a plastic bag, and shoot from under arcades (้จŽๆจ“). Taipei's covered sidewalks are made for this.
  • Close focus (~10 cm) for food: steam, dumplings, night-market details.
  • Optional add-ons: the WCL-X100 II (28mm) helps in tight alleys and temple interiors; the TCL-X100 II (50mm) gives full-res 50mm. Neither is required.
๐ŸŽž๏ธ November recipes: clear & bright
The look for this trip
Clean, airy and bright: lifted shadows, protected highlights, true colors and little to no grain. The opposite of the moody, crushed-shadow street look, and built to fight November's gray drizzle. Load them into C1โ€“C6 so you can switch with the Q menu. All six are for the X100VI (X-Trans 5 HR). I don't have your Trip 1 settings on file, so these are designed fresh. Tell me what you used and I'll check none overlap.

๐Ÿ’ก Reala Ace is Fuji's most neutral, "honest" sim. The slight blue cut keeps it clean rather than cold.

๐ŸŒง๏ธC2 ยท Drizzle Bright

Use it for: Overcast and rainy days, which November will have: Jiufen in fog, wet streets, Nanzhuang lanes.

๐Ÿ’ก A fixed, slightly warm WB stops gray skies going blue. Push the exposure brighter than feels right; wet pavement reads as glossy, not muddy.

๐ŸŒƒC3 ยท Neon Clear

Use it for: Night markets, Ximending, Xinyi skybridges, Christmasland. Crisp, saturated neon without the teal-orange film look.

๐Ÿ–คC5 ยท High-Key Mono Portrait

Use it for: B&W portraits: people at markets, maid-cafรฉ staff (with permission), Pas-ta'ay hosts, friends at dinner. Bright, soft, luminous. A different feel from the gritty Acros+R street look.

๐Ÿ’ก The Ye filter is gentler on skin than R; negative clarity smooths it, and the lifted shadows give a high-key, window-light feel. Put light behind or beside your subject, and use the 50 mm crop for a tighter head-and-shoulders.

๐ŸœC6 ยท Table Light (indoor food)

Use it for: Indoor food under mixed tungsten/fluorescent light: beef noodles, dumplings, rechao, hot pot, Michelin plates.

Aperture / focusf/2.8โ€“4 at 15โ€“30 cm (close focus to ~10 cm)

๐Ÿ’ก White Priority kills the yellow restaurant cast; the small R+/Bโˆ’ puts appetizing warmth back. Strong Color Chrome keeps chili-oil reds and braise browns rich without clipping. Shoot steam backlit (window or lamp behind the bowl), 45ยฐ for bowls, straight overhead for spreads. Stop down to f/2.8+ up close; f/2 gets soft at minimum focus.

DR note

๐Ÿ™ Photographing Pas-ta'ay and temples
At Pas-ta'ay, tie silvergrass to the camera as well as to yourself. Follow the hosts on where shooting is OK, use no flash, ever, and don't step into the dance line with a camera. If you're dancing, the camera is away; you can't let go of hands anyway. Keep portraits respectful and ask with a gesture. At temples, don't shoot straight at people mid-prayer from close range, and don't point the camera at the main altar during ceremonies.
